Two Important Events

Oct 18, 2011 No Comments ›› admin

Please join us Wednesday, Feb. 23, for these two important events:

***SUNDAY SALES RALLY*** 12 noon, Georgia State Capitol steps (Washington Street side). Georgia is one of only three states that do not allow some option for off-premise sale of beer, wine or liquor on Sundays. Please join us to show your support for SB 10 and HB 69, which would give voters the right to decide whether to allow Sunday sales in their communities. Feel free to bring homemade signs to the rally. You are welcome to visit the Capitol and lobby your legislator for passage of SB 10 and HB 69 after the rally.

***HOPE LISTENING TOUR*** 2 to 4 p.m., Georgia State University. Reps. Margaret Kaiser, Kathy Ashe, Simone Bell, Stacey Evans and Rashad Taylor will co-host the second stop on Georgia House Democrats’ Statewide Listening Tour to understand better how cuts to the HOPE Scholarship program will impact citizens. For more information, call 404-656-5059 or email staff@gahousedems.com.

Gov. Deal called a meeting with state legislators from Atlanta this week to discuss the Atlanta Public Schools after the system was placed on probation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Click here for the AJC’s report on that meeting.

Mark Elgart of AdvancED said the Atlanta school system has until Sept. 30 to improve school board functioning in order to maintain accreditation. The accrediting agency, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, is part of AdvancED.
